A Florida man died after a head-on collision Thursday night on U.S. Route 322 in Rush Township, according to state police.
Mark A. Erwin, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the 3500 block of Port Matilda Highway.
Erwin was driving a Toyota Sienna minivan westbound at about 7:50 p.m. when he crossed into the eastbound lane to pass slower moving traffic, police wrote in a crash report on Friday. He then struck a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck towing a flat-bed trailer head-on.
The driver of the Silverado, a 26-year-old Minnesota man, was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for evaluation and a blood draw for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the crash report.
The passenger in the Silverado, a 20-year-old Maryland man, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries of unknown severity.
The road was closed in both directions in the area of the crash for about four hours.
Moshannon Valley EMS, Hope Fire Company, PennDOT and Dunlap Towing assisted at the scene.
